A staff product designer role on Vanta's Design Systems team, which builds and maintains the shared component library (Alpaca), design tokens, interaction patterns and documentation. The role focuses on evolving the system to support AI-driven, runtime-composed UI and agent chat and canvas experiences.
What you'll do
- Lead the strategy, evolution and execution of Alpaca
- Extend the design system to support AI and agent product patterns
- Partner with designers and engineers to define, document and ship components and guidelines
- Establish and evolve governance models, contribution frameworks and quality standards
- Drive design system adoption through education, tooling and proactive partnership
- Represent Design Systems and AI Patterns work in cross-functional forums
- Mentor other designers, including senior designers, on systems thinking and component architecture
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design across all components and patterns
What we're looking for
- 7+ years as a product designer with depth in design systems, ideally in complex B2B SaaS
- Expertise building and evolving scalable design systems, including component architecture, tokens and pattern libraries
- Strong visual design foundation across typography, colour theory, spacing, interaction design and accessibility
- Comfort operating in ambiguity around unsettled org boundaries
- Experience collaborating with front-end engineers, with fluency in front-end code
- Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including variants, auto-layout, design tokens and shared library management
- Strong soft skills to influence without authority and communicate system-level tradeoffs
- Track record of mentoring designers and raising craft and systems literacy
- Authorised to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship
- Openness to using AI to amplify skills and improve efficiency
