Senior Product Designer - Design Systems at Uplight, leading the strategic evolution, governance, and architecture of the company's core design system. Sits at the intersection of Design, Engineering, and Product Strategy, building a unified, accessible, AI-optimized component architecture for all product teams.
What you'll do
- Drive evolution of the design system by delivering UI mockups, icons, illustrations, design tokens, and component specifications
- Partner with cross-functional leadership to establish strategy, roadmap, and prioritization framework for the design system
- Audit, refine, and construct scalable UI components, design tokens, responsive layouts, and interaction patterns
- Collaborate with frontend engineering on component structures, token naming, auto-layout rules, and variants
- Partner with UX designers, product managers, and UI engineers to validate, scale, and ship design solutions
- Create documentation and usage guidance including best practices, anti-patterns, and decision frameworks
- Establish contribution models, version control practices, and governance processes, facilitating company-wide working sessions
- Partner with engineering to explore and implement responsible AI tooling and automated workflows
- Champion accessibility, ensuring components adhere to WCAG AA standards by default
- Host co-design sessions, training workshops, and office hours
- Champion a culture of continuous learning, feedback, and iteration
What we're looking for
- 7+ years of experience in digital product design
- track record creating, scaling, and maintaining enterprise-grade design systems in B2B or B2B2C software
- deep expertise in component design, variants, interaction patterns, responsive layouts, micro-interactions, visual design fundamentals
- exceptional standards for visual design and component work
- expert proficiency in Figma advanced capabilities: variables, design tokens, component properties, auto-layout, library publishing
- strong familiarity with frontend capabilities (React, Angular, Material UI/MUI) and component architecture
- strong communication and storytelling skills
- facilitation skills establishing multi-team contribution frameworks and leading workshops
- deep knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG AA)
Nice to have
- comfortable jumping into complex technical domains with curiosity and humility
- experience leveraging modern AI tools (Claude Code, Figma MCP, automated spec-to-code generators)
- experience writing or governing component usage documentation at scale
- fluency in Agile environments and meeting cadences
