Senior Frontend Engineer role on Synthesia's Design System team, co-owning the shared UI foundation every product is built on. Focus on making the system AI-friendly for both human and agent developers.
What you'll do
- Build, scale and evolve the component library, design tokens and documentation
- Extend the design system for AI-assisted development with Storybook and machine-readable interfaces
- Design component APIs that resist misuse for AI and human developers
- Write high-quality, performant frontend code in React/TypeScript
- Partner with design, product and engineering to define and ship components
- Make components accessible by default, meeting WCAG 2.2 AA
- Own developer experience: documentation, guidelines, Storybook, APIs, versioning and migration paths
- Implement and maintain theming, white labelling and localization/RTL support
- Improve the system based on adoption metrics and contributor feedback
- Shape technical direction of the design system over 6–12 months
What we're looking for
- At least five years as a software engineer, three at senior level
- Real ownership of a design system or shared component library
- Expert HTML, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Strong React and familiarity with modern build tooling
- Strong command of component API design, versioning and developer experience
- Experience or strong interest in making component libraries consumable by AI
- Solid understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility and web performance
- Comfortable building and verifying components to WCAG 2.2 AA / EN 301 549
- Strong sense of craft and attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Nice to have
- Strong design sensibility and judgement on design decisions
- Experience implementing multi-brand theming in production
- Experience with localization and internationalization including RTL
