This role sits in Stripe's Web Presence and Platform team, on the Design Systems pod that builds and stewards Helm, the shared design system behind stripe.com. The engineer turns Stripe's visual direction into reusable, production-ready components, from design through implementation, testing, documentation, and adoption.
What you'll do
- Design and build polished, accessible, performant React components and patterns for stripe.com
- Partner with designers and engineers on component behavior, APIs, responsive states, interaction details, and design-token architecture
- Maintain design-code parity and component quality through documentation, testing, and review
- Help teams decide when to compose, extend, or keep implementations local, and lead upstreaming of reusable work
- Improve how designers, engineers, content authors, and agents discover and adopt Helm through guidance, examples, and tooling
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of frontend or design engineering experience building production web experiences or shared systems
- Experience building and maintaining a production design system or shared component library
- Proficiency with React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, from design through production
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools with sound judgment on quality and validation
- Experience designing flexible component APIs, primitives, tokens, and composition models
- Strong visual and interaction-design judgment and communication skills for system-level tradeoffs
Nice to have
- Experience building expressive, brand-forward web experiences balancing consistency with differentiated art direction
- Familiarity with CMS-driven experiences, structured content, localization, or global website constraints
- Experience with tools connecting design and code, such as Figma libraries, design tokens, Code Connect, or visual-regression testing
- Experience migrating consumers between design systems or evolving shared components with backward compatibility
Good to know
- Remote defined as 35 miles or more from a Stripe office
- Regular work-from-home expected for remote employees
- Stripe does not cover relocation costs to a remote location
