Product Designer, Design Systems role at Speak, sitting within the design team. Owns design quality, semantics and product usefulness of a world-class, agent-first design system, working closely with dedicated engineers. Scope covers iOS, Android and web product surfaces, mobile-first in the near term.
What you'll do
- Improve design-engineering workflow, treating seams as a design problem
- Set the quality bar for components and patterns, pressure-testing by building
- Own the semantic layer: component naming, usage rules, decision guidance
- Create standards and workflows that make design system adoption the default
- Own documentation and QA workflows, including AI-assisted consistency checks
- Build and evolve components, prioritising highest-leverage gaps
- Establish agent-first systems and workflows for humans and agents
- Set the operating cadence and contribution/review rhythm with design and engineering
What we're looking for
- 6+ years in product design with depth in design systems built on tokens and component APIs
- Experience helping build a design system before, including governance and adoption
- Systems thinker who prioritises reusable solutions over single features
- Defensible taste in spacing, motion and interaction states
- Clear communication and cross-functional drive to push adoption
- Autonomy and end-to-end ownership from problem to shipped and adopted
- Fluency with AI in design craft and repeatable agent workflows
- Accessibility and scale mindset across mobile and web
Nice to have
- Comfort building or changing components in code (Swift/SwiftUI, Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, or web)
- Shipped consumer-scale mobile products across many markets/locales
- Built a design system engineers actually used that outlasted their time on the team
- Point of view on where design-to-code and agent workflows are heading
- Experience in language learning, education or another cross-cultural domain
