This role delivers well-defined parts of Serko's design system: the components, tokens, patterns and guidance that every product team, and a growing number of agents, build on. It reports to a Senior Engineering Manager or Engineering Manager within a self-organising design system team.
What you'll do
- Independently deliver accessible, high-quality components
- Own everything shipped from initial scoping and release through to adoption and support
- Work agentically by default, directing AI tools with clear requirements
- Write test-first code
- Make the system highly legible to both humans and AI agents
- Partner closely with Design and Engineering
- Write clear guidance and evolve foundations without disrupting teams that rely on them
- Break complex problems into small, shippable slices
- Lead smaller projects
- Make fast, reversible decisions
- Continuously improve how the team builds
What we're looking for
- Solid production experience with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS
- Deep understanding of component architecture, API design, and design tokens (Figma to code)
- Ability to build simple, maintainable solutions with a sharp eye for design details
- Proven ability to build to WCAG AA 2.x standards
- Robust automated testing experience (unit, interaction, visual regression)
- Experience with, or strong curiosity about, context engineering and verification loops
- Ability to structure code and documentation for human and AI consumption
- Proactive collaborator who plans effectively and supports peers through code reviews
