Ramp is hiring a Design Systems Lead to lead the design systems team and own the system's vision and direction. The role builds patterns, tools and guidance so designers, engineers and agents can build experiences that look and work like Ramp.
What you'll do
- Lead and develop the design systems team, setting priorities, ownership and goals
- Own the system's vision and direction, deciding what to preserve, evolve or replace
- Elevate Ramp's visual and interaction design across typography, hierarchy, motion and accessibility
- Make design judgment usable by people and agents through reusable patterns and guidance
- Guide technical architecture with engineering, from components and tokens to agent workflows
- Stay hands-on, building prototypes and working in code to test ideas
- Define and measure quality through repeatable evaluations grounded in real tasks
- Improve the path from idea to shipped experience with engineering and AI teams
- Earn adoption by working with product teams and turning feedback into system improvements
- Keep the team moving forward, experimenting as models and tools evolve
What we're looking for
- Experience leading and developing strong design or design engineering teams
- Exceptional visual and interaction design skills with clear point of view
- Deep systems thinking and experience building systems other teams actually adopt
- Strong technical fluency, prototyping and building in code with engineers
- Active, hands-on use of AI in design and building workflow
- Experience turning design principles into practical guidance and reusable patterns
- Strong product judgment, staying close to people using what you build
- Ability to create clarity in ambiguity and give difficult feedback
- Curiosity bordering on obsession about how AI changes software and building

- Experience building agent-usable design guidance, generation workflows, or evaluations
- Experience building developer or designer tools adopted into daily workflows
- Experience leading a major design-system migration or company-wide change
- Experience evolving a system across platforms or connecting product and brand experiences
