Perk is hiring a Senior Design Systems Designer to own the craft and visual direction of Suitcase, its design system supporting 25+ designers and engineers across web and mobile. The role sits between design and engineering leadership, shaping how consistent Perk's product feels across every surface.
What you'll do
- Set the direction for Suitcase with design and engineering leadership
- Turn the vision into a roadmap with named resources
- Report progress against the roadmap
- Own the visual language, token architecture, and foundations of Suitcase (typography, colour, space, motion, interaction states)
- Work with content design and localisation on content tokens
- Design, document, and refine components with complete states, variants, platform coverage and usage guidance
- Write component specs that AI prototyping tools can read
- Bring components to WCAG 2.2 AA standard
- Make accessibility conformance part of how new components are built and reviewed
- Define adoption, component health, accessibility, and Figma-to-code parity measures
- Report against those measures
- Run the contribution governance model, with routes between experimental and core layers
- Champion Suitcase across Builders and explain the reasoning behind decisions
- Coach designers and engineers on using and contributing to the system
What we're looking for
- Strong product design experience designing and scaling design systems for a fast-growing product on web and mobile
- Deep grasp of typography, colour, layout, motion, and micro-interactions
- Experience designing and maintaining token systems: naming, theming, documentation, Figma-to-code workflows
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Practical experience designing components for WCAG 2.2 AA, including keyboard and screen-reader behaviour
- Experience prototyping with AI tools and with Storybook, Code Connect and MCP tooling
- Understanding of how these tools connect design systems to code and AI tools
- Ability to take non-designers from problem to decision to outcome, building adoption by persuasion
- Clear opinion of what good looks like, able to make and defend trade-off decisions
- Experience using customer insight from research, support, sales, and team data
- Ownership of business outcomes
- Clear voice in shaping roadmap, sequencing and scope
- Ability to push back when the system is bypassed, without damaging the relationship
- Experience integrating or consolidating design systems
- Familiarity with content and localisation considerations in components
