Lyft is hiring a Design Systems Manager to join Design Foundations, the infrastructure layer of the design organisation. The role owns the craft and execution of the Lyft Product Language (LPL) system across product, marketing and brand. It reports to the Director of Design Foundations.
What you'll do
- Set strategy and roadmap for LPL across product, marketing and brand surfaces
- Lead the AI transformation of the system, integrating AI into LPL tooling and workflows
- Represent Design Systems in reviews and senior leadership forums
- Manage and develop a team of design systems designers and illustrators across iOS, Android, web and brand
- Hold the quality bar for cross-platform coherence, accessibility, road safety, localisation and brand consistency
- Coach the team on tradeoffs between flexibility, coherency, usability and efficiency
- Partner with the Design Systems DPM and engineering managers to maintain system health and sequence work
- Own the LPL component contribution and review process end-to-end
- Communicate system decisions, adoption expectations and quality standards across teams
What we're looking for
- 7+ years in product or brand design
- 2+ years managing designers
- Direct experience leading a design system at scale
- Fluency across mobile and web platforms
- Experience managing a design systems team
- Track record of partnership with engineering on architecture, releases and quality
- Experience setting and defending craft standards across stakeholders
- Excellent written communication in an async-heavy environment
- Comfortable driving disagree-and-commit decisions in ambiguity
Nice to have
- Familiarity with AI-assisted design tooling (Figma MCP, generative workflows, agentic prototyping)
Good to know
- Hybrid role, in-office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
- Flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year
- Reports to the Director of Design Foundations
