Design System Engineer role at loveholidays, sitting between design and tech leadership, owning the evolution of the design system that bridges design intent and frontend implementation across product teams. This is a 12-month FTC contract focused on elevating product quality and consistency for a customer-facing platform used by millions.
What you'll do
- Operationalise the design system, co-leading evolution and governance
- Build and maintain a robust component library in React/TypeScript
- Establish clear adoption standards across product teams
- Define how the design system supports AI-generated frontend code
- Bridge design and engineering, translating decisions into reusable components
- Review design system features before release for UX and consistency
- Make targeted visual and interaction refinements aligned with guidelines
- Improve developer experience by partnering with engineers
- Collaborate with design leadership, product managers and engineering
What we're looking for
- Proven experience building and evolving multi-platform design systems (Web, iOS, Android)
- Expertise in React, TypeScript and modern CSS
- Focus on token architecture and scalable component libraries
- Systems thinking covering versioning, governance and adoption strategies
- Collaborative communication with strong design sensibility
- Use of usage analytics, adoption metrics and research to guide decisions
- Ability to write migration guides and clear documentation
- Deep commitment to web performance and Core Web Vitals
- Treats accessibility as a core requirement
Nice to have
- Knowledge of the travel sector or other D2C e-commerce environments
- Experience building design system foundations supporting multi-brand/white-label architecture and internationalisation
