Staff Product Designer role on HubSpot's Design Language Systems team, within the Product Platform product line. Owns the token architecture and visual language for Trellis, the enterprise design system spanning HubSpot's product suite.
What you'll do
- Design and steward the three-tier token graph across global, semantic and component levels
- Make and defend architectural token decisions on naming, tier boundaries and abstraction levels
- Manage token migrations without breaking downstream consumers via phased rollout and governance
- Own the visual language of Trellis across colour, typography, spacing, iconography and motion
- Serve as final eye on visual quality and hold the aesthetic bar for the system
- Develop and communicate design principles and tenets for navigating visual decisions
- Lead effort to make the Trellis token layer machine-readable for AI coding tools and MCP integrations
- Partner with product teams as token and visual language authority, surfacing system friction points
- Collaborate with engineers on implementation fidelity and advocate for design intent
- Contribute to Trellis governance including contribution review and quality standards
What we're looking for
- Prior hands-on ownership of multi-tier token architecture at enterprise scale
- Track record of making consequential token architecture decisions and owning downstream effects
- Full command of visual design as a systems discipline across colour, typography, spacing, iconography, motion
- Experience evolving a mature design language without breaking it
- Portfolio demonstrating aesthetic output of token and systems work
- Ability to form and deploy own design tenets for ambiguous visual decisions
- Working knowledge of machine-readable design systems and W3C DTCG token format
- Engagement with evolving token standards and tooling such as Tokens Studio, Style Dictionary, Figma Variables API
- Curiosity and rigour toward AI tooling layer for design systems
- Staff-level autonomy to identify problems and drive solutions without close direction
- Comfort partnering with engineering on implementation fidelity
- Ability to communicate token architecture decisions to non-specialist stakeholders
- Experience holding the visual quality bar for a system used by many designers
