HubSpot is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to lead frontend technical direction for its Trellis design system, sitting within Frontend Engineering. The role owns the component library architecture and the migration of Canvas applications to Trellis at scale.
What you'll do
- Drive the evolution of the Trellis design system during the 2026 UI modernization
- Build and expose a world class component library with Trellis and Product teams
- Define the accessibility capability model, controls, toggles and patterns for Trellis
- Define and develop internal tooling to support Trellis's evolution at scale
- Define and develop migration tooling, codemods and coding agent workflows to move Canvas to Trellis
- Make practical decisions on component library API interface and abstractions
- Leverage coding agents to ship production code and lead complex initiatives
- Mentor Staff and Senior engineers and drive thought leadership on frontend craft
- Partner with engineering leads, PMs and UX to align frontend direction with the roadmap
What we're looking for
- 14+ years of software engineering experience with Principal-scope impact
- Deep expertise in React, TypeScript and modern JavaScript frameworks and architecture
- Experience with modern component libraries and tooling such as BaseUI, StyleX and Cloudflare Workers
- Experience developing and shipping a production design system used at scale
- Hands-on builder mindset, writing, debugging, reviewing and shipping
- Fluency with AI coding agents and a perspective on their impact on frontend development
