Headway is hiring a senior product designer to be the second member of its Design Systems team, partnering closely with the design systems lead. The role owns the Helix design system, which powers both the consumer marketplace and the therapist-facing EHR product, currently being rebuilt from the ground up.
What you'll do
- Design flexible, scalable components holding the bar on typography, spacing, color, states, and density
- Ship specs engineers can build from without a follow-up meeting
- Build Figma library components with variants and properties wired up
- Shape semantic token architecture and theming spec across different surfaces
- Write documentation a designer, engineer, and coding agent can each act on
- Work with product designers and engineers on their design system needs
- Advocate for the right ways to use Helix
- Write migration plans teams follow when a component changes shape
- Champion accessibility and hold Helix to that bar
What we're looking for
- 5+ years designing digital products
- At least two years working on a design system used by multiple teams
- Strong visual craft: typography, spacing, color, states, density
- Ability to tell a one-off request from a signal of a system gap
- Skill at clear documentation and well-chosen patterns
- Comfort in React and Tailwind, able to build simpler components
