Senior or staff design engineer at Harvey, working within the design systems function alongside frontend and platform engineering. Owns the components, patterns, and tokens that keep the product coherent as it scales.
What you'll do
- Define and evolve core design system foundations including components, patterns, and tokens
- Design, prototype, and ship production-ready system components with frontend engineering
- Bring a brand lens to system decisions for cohesion and distinctiveness
- Establish contribution, governance, and deprecation models balancing velocity with integrity
- Embed accessibility, responsiveness, and performance into the system by default
- Document system usage and best practices for product teams
- Advocate for system adoption and consistency in planning and reviews
- Anticipate future product and platform needs and evolve the system proactively
What we're looking for
- 8+ years of product design experience with ownership of design systems in complex environments
- Portfolio showing system-level thinking and strong craft, quality, visual cohesion
- Deep understanding of component architecture and design tokens at scale
- Proven experience partnering with frontend engineers to ship production systems
- Strong working knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design
- Ability to articulate system decisions and tradeoffs to cross-functional partners
- Comfort operating in ambiguous problem spaces and bringing structure
