A Design Systems Product Designer role on Gusto's Builder Enablement team, which owns Workbench, Gusto's internal design system. The role covers component and token craft alongside AI tooling that helps Workbench serve both human builders and LLMs, at a senior staff-equivalent level.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain Workbench components and patterns, including complex components with variables, variants and tokenized styles
- Own and evolve semantic and functional token architecture through the Brand Refresh and theming
- Pair with engineering on component consistency, coded implementations, technical plans and PRs
- Contribute to AI tooling including structured documentation, storybook examples and LLM-legible content
- Support product designers and engineers through Office Hours, Slack and async review
- Document and publish design decisions, usage guidance and component rationale
- Participate in decisions about component architecture, naming conventions and migration strategy
What we're looking for
- 4+ years on a product design systems team through design, implementation, documentation and adoption
- Experience with token architecture and component API design
- 7+ years experience on a product design team
- Genuine experience using AI tools such as Claude or Copilot as a meaningful workflow part
- Ability to pair with engineering and contribute to implementation decisions and code repos
- Solid understanding of WCAG AA guidelines
- Expert knowledge of AI design tools and Figma, including complex component construction and variable/token usage
- Basic Github process knowledge
- High design craft and polish with a point of view on design system quality
- Documentation expertise and ability to educate and align peers across disciplines
Nice to have
- Experience with LLM-readable documentation, MCP servers, or AI-assisted design tooling
