GM is seeking a senior writer to create structured documentation for its design system and brand guidelines. The role defines how GM documents its design language across web, mobile, vehicle, and brand touchpoints, covering components, patterns, tokens, and visual identity.

What you'll do

  • Write and maintain structured documentation for design system components, patterns, templates, and foundations
  • Develop brand guideline content for logo usage, lockups, color, typography, grid, composition, motion
  • Translate complex design and systems thinking into simple, useful guidance
  • Partner with design leads, systems teams, accessibility, engineers, product, research, brand strategy
  • Help define information architecture, governance, and editorial standards for documentation
  • Create usage guidance, principles, do's and don'ts, examples, and rationale
  • Write directly in Figma, documentation platforms, and content systems
  • Help define best practices for documentation serving human readers and AI-enabled systems
  • Assess and shape documentation tools, workflows, and processes
  • Support development of a cohesive Brand Center and documentation ecosystem
  • Review and refine existing documentation for clarity, consistency, tone, quality
  • Contribute to naming, terminology, and content frameworks across web, mobile, vehicle
  • Use AI tools for content development, AI-readiness, and prototyping

What we're looking for

  • Strong portfolio in design systems, UX documentation, brand guidelines
  • Experience writing structured guidance for design systems, digital products, or brand standards
  • Ability to organize complex information into clear documentation and frameworks
  • Strong understanding of visual design and interface design
  • Experience collaborating with designers, engineers, cross-functional stakeholders
  • Excellent editorial judgment for clarity, hierarchy, tone, consistency
  • Comfort working in Figma and collaborative documentation environments
  • Strong sense of ownership in evolving or ambiguous spaces
  • Experience establishing standards, templates, governance, or content systems
  • Ability to balance precision with pragmatism in real-world workflows
