Product Designer role in the Financial Times Design Systems team, based at Bracken House, London, on a 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. Owns evolution of Origami, the FT's design system, across web, iOS and Android.
What you'll do
- Design and evolve reusable components, patterns, foundations and libraries within Origami
- Contribute to system solutions across web and mobile, spanning iOS, Android and web
- Help identify opportunities for reusable patterns and system improvements
- Support design work from problem framing through validation, documentation and handover
- Create documentation and specifications across Figma, Zeroheight and other tooling
- Collaborate with engineers on design tokens across Figma and production code
- Support designers and engineers through contribution and governance processes
- Work with product teams to identify gaps and embed system thinking
- Support delivery of roadmap priorities improving efficiency, quality and adoption
- Maintain a high bar for accessibility, craft and coherence across the system
- Explore and apply AI-assisted tooling for prototyping, component definition and documentation
- Contribute to making Origami usable within AI-assisted workflows
- Collaborate with engineers on AI-assisted approaches to component development
What we're looking for
- Strong product design craft across interaction, visual design and prototyping
- Experience working on or contributing to digital products or design systems
- Experience designing across web and mobile, including iOS and Android conventions
- Confidence applying accessibility standards in practice
- Ability to document work with working understanding of HTML, CSS and semantic markup
- Collaborative approach building relationships across product, engineering, editorial and brand teams
- Comfortable collaborating through feedback, contribution and shared ways of working
- Understanding of how design decisions contribute to system quality and maintainability
- Portfolio demonstrating strong product and systems thinking
- Experience working in Figma, including component libraries, variables, tokens and prototyping
- Experience creating or contributing to reusable components, patterns or guidance
- Experience working closely with engineers to deliver high-quality outcomes
- Experience working in cross-functional teams within product delivery environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in systems thinking, accessibility and emerging tooling
Nice to have
- Experience or interest in AI-assisted design or development workflows is a plus
