Etsy is hiring a Staff Design Program Manager to run operations for its UX Foundations team, covering Design Systems and Content Design. The role blends program and project management with strategic operational impact, reporting to the Director of Design Program Management, with flexibility for org-wide initiatives.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain operational infrastructure so the team can work with deep focus
- Streamline intake and protect a realistic team roadmap
- Drive end-to-end lifecycle of the Design System and Content Design backlogs
- Ensure backlog work is granular, actionable and aligned with quarterly goals
- Establish and socialise principles for how the team prioritises work
- Create cadences such as standups, retros and crits to improve flow and craft
- Lead occasional org-wide programs with the Director of Design Program Management
- Facilitate the framework for how product teams interact with UX Foundations
- Act as primary link between UX Foundations and the Product Design organisation
- Synchronise system updates with product release cycles
- Develop reporting such as dashboards, newsletters and executive summaries
- Build the operational framework for Content Design, including running its backlog
- Develop capacity deployment strategies for Content Design
- Ensure Content Design work is integrated into broader design reviews
- Partner with Engineering Ops and Brand Design on technical viability and brand alignment
- Participate in technical discussions on the design-to-code pipeline
- Serve as operational lead for design agencies or vendors
What we're looking for
- 8+ years in program management, project management or design operations within product development
- Direct experience with design systems and component libraries
- Experience working with content designers
- Ability to context switch between tactical execution and strategic planning
- Clear, succinct communication adapted to audience and moment
- Focus on improving team flow, decision quality and craft standards
- Strength in planning and negotiation with leaders
- Ability to build trust through ownership and follow-through with ICs
- Collaborative spirit with passion for levelling up others' operational skills
- Familiarity with Jira, Figma, Notion and Google
