Senior Product Designer role on Discord's Design Systems team, which owns design quality across UI, content, and graphics. Owns day-to-day stewardship of Mana, the design system, including fixing bugs, shipping updates, and evolving components. Reports to the Director of Product Design, Design Foundations.
What you'll do
- Maintain and evolve Mana's foundational tokens, components, and patterns
- Triage and fix bugs, ship updates, keep Figma and code in sync
- Migrate and deprecate legacy elements
- Build and refine components in Figma with care for structure, variants, properties, and variables
- Own prioritisation of Mana's maintenance and evolution work
- Help shape how contributions and governance work as the product grows
- Explore how AI, including skills and agents, can make Mana easier to use, maintain, and scale
- Support product teams with empathy and clear reasoning in help channels
- Work closely with product designers on contributions
- Explain the difference between what goes against the system and personal preference
- Extend Mana's visual language to new components and surfaces
- Bring fresh ideas that evolve the system thoughtfully
- Collaborate closely with engineering in a co-owned system
- Educate and evangelise the system through documentation and tutorials
- Produce high-quality mocks and interactive prototypes
- Present design rationale cross-functionally, informed by user research and data
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of experience in UX or product design
- 2+ years working on design systems, including maintenance, documentation, and support
- Mastery of Figma component building, including variants, component properties, auto layout, variables, and library management
- Working knowledge of front-end code and how components are built in code
- Experience with GitHub and Markdown
- Hands-on experience using AI in a design systems context, such as skills, agents, or AI-assisted workflows
- Strong visual judgment and craft within an established style, including motion, across Web, Desktop, iOS, Android
- Experience with inclusive design and accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Diplomatic, empathetic, low-ego communication grounded in reasoning rather than taste
- Clear technical documentation writing
- Thrives on a cross-functional team with shared ownership and overlapping roles
Nice to have
- Experience planning and leading migrations or deprecations of legacy components across a large product
- Experience working in a design system co-owned by design and engineering
