This role leads the Verso Design System within Condé Nast Technology's Design team. It sits at the intersection of design and engineering, owning the system's evolution, design tokens, and documentation while managing a small team.
What you'll do
- Manage a small team focused on continuous improvement and expansion of the design system
- Provide mentorship, guidance and support to foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture
- Align individual goals with broader team and organisational objectives
- Encourage professional development and skill enhancement within the team
- Oversee the extensive library of design tokens
- Collaborate with designers to integrate new tokens and maintain consistency
- Lead the envisioning and creation of new design system features
- Take ownership of comprehensive documentation for the design system
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights into evolving design needs
- Work with the Associate Design Director to align the design system with design vision and strategy
- Conduct regular quality assurance checks to uphold system integrity
- Facilitate peer code review amongst the team
- Contribute to engineering culture by delivering product demos
What we're looking for
- Portfolio demonstrating systems thinking, front-end development and visual design
- Experience building and contributing to design systems
- Track record developing and delivering web or mobile products
- Experience with hypothesis-driven design and qualitative and quantitative testing
- Established approach to framing and solving complex problems
- Understanding of modern web technologies including HTML, CSS, CSS-in-JS and React-based JavaScript frameworks
Nice to have
- Experience with Figma, especially plugin development
