Principal Frontend Associate role at Capital One, hybrid in Plano, TX, sitting within the design systems team. Owns building foundational, reusable components that product engineering teams use to build features faster and more consistently.
What you'll do
- Write clean, scalable, performant code for core component libraries and design system tooling
- Partner with product, design and engineering teams to translate UI/UX designs into reusable technical solutions
- Build comprehensive automated tests and participate in detailed code reviews
- Ensure components meet enterprise accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA)
- Mentor other engineers and promote modern engineering best practices
- Help product teams integrate the design system and gather feedback to guide the roadmap
- Report on the impact of design system work

- Strong proficiency in CSS for responsive layouts and scalable component styles
- Experience translating complex designs into modular, reusable components
- Solid understanding of semantic HTML and WCAG accessibility standards
- Experience with frontend build tools such as webpack, Vite or Rollup
- Familiarity with consuming HTTP-based APIs (REST, GraphQL)
- Experience working in an Agile or Kanban environment
- At least 1 year experience building or contributing to a design system
- Experience with a cloud computing provider (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud)
- Experience improving web performance via bundle size, assets or load times
- Familiarity with native mobile development (Swift, Kotlin)
